Sound Systems at 2169

[edit | edit source]

The physical space had a number of sound systems in various rooms. Most were part of the Music guild, but there were also audio systems for general use during events.

Hackitorium

[edit | edit source]

You could Chromecast or AirTunes to the sound system in the Hackitorium.

  • Make sure the mixer was on (power switch on top) and the volume turned up to the right channel, and the input (inside the large black AV box) was switched to the correct device.

Here is the photo of the large black AV box:

For example, if you wanted to play music via Apple TV, you'd set the HDMI Switcher to "appleTV", and set the output device to "Apple TV Hackatorium" on your machine.

A RaspberryPi was plugged into the mixer too. It was located on the network at hackitorium-rpi.noise and played Somafm, most of the time, which could be accessed via the command line tool mpc. To find out the current song and channel:

mpc -h hackitorium-rpi.noise

There was a line in cable coming out of the AV box you could plug into a music making device.

Turing and Church Classrooms

[edit | edit source]

You could Chromecast or AirTunes to the sound system in the classrooms. The speakers were always on and turned up to some appropriate volume level. Switch the switcher in the AV box to the correct device.

Dirty Shop

[edit | edit source]

There was a speaker system above the shelves. A line in was dangled near the door.

There was a Chromecast plugged into the system (noted as "a little busted" at time of move).

Sewing Area

[edit | edit source]

There was a Bluetooth enabled speaker sitting nearby most of the time.

Drum Circle

[edit | edit source]

No.

Be Considerate

[edit | edit source]
"I have good taste."

—Mark, speaking for everyone ever's self assessment

Everyone likes their music but it isn't always a good idea to play loud music in the space.

  • Ask yourself if you would be content listening to your music yourself on headphones so other people can listen to theirs.
