  • MEETUP: No Meetup event, but all are welcome!
  • ORGANIZERS: Travis Briggs (tmoney on Discord).

The Python Project Meetup is a weekly meetup where everyone is invited to work on a programming project, mostly in Python, from start to finish.

The basic idea

Many of the folks who were previously part of PyClass wanted to explore the opportunity to create a project, from scratch, utilizing their Python skills. We will meet every Thursday and:

  • Brainstorm ideas for a project, or project features.
  • Research tools and techniques that can be used to bring the project to life.
  • Check in on individual progress.
  • Try to address any blockers.

Most of the actual work/coding of the project is expected to be completed by individuals "on their own" during the time between meetups.

Notes doc

We have a shared Google doc for notes. Anyone can comment. If you would like edit access, please join us at one of the meetups.

Current ideas

So far, we have discussed the idea of some kind of link sharing/news aggregation site. It would be something of a Reddit clone, or a Google News clone, or a combination of both. We have discussed ideas for aggregating news articles, allowing user feedback (likes/upvotes/etc) and visualizing the relationships between articles.

Joining "late"

The project is likely to span several months, if not more. However, anyone is welcome to join us at any point and be a part of our collaborative goals. We can find a spot for you!
