The Pico-W Python Group is a class where we're learning to program in Python as well as embedded programming concepts through short examples for the Pico-W.

  • WHEN: Mondays 3:00 - 4:00 PM in the upstairs work space by the windows. If you have not been to Noisebridge before, please try to arrive 15 minutes early so that you can be introduced to the space. We tend to meet on a semester-by-semester basis because, you know, kids. The current set of meetings will start on 8/26/2024 and run through 12/9/2024 with the exception of 9/16/2024.
  • WHO: Kids mostly, but the class is open students of all ages.
  • ORGANIZERS: Hamilton Carter (antigrav_kids on Discord).

  • We're working from the Lori Pfahler YouTube Pico-W Lessons
  • So far, we've been providing the Pico-Ws for students, but if your a grownup, or just want to buy a few spares for trying thingss Adafruit usually has a supply

What to bring

We'll have Pico-W's in the space for kids to take with them. Each time please bring

  • Your Pico-W and breadboard if you already have one plus any parts you've been using in the classs
  • A computer with a free USB port that can run Thonny. So far we know that Windows and Apple both work. Newer Chromebooks that can add Linux easily work easily. Some older Chromebooks have a hard time installing Linux.

Afterwards

When the class ends at 4 PM all are welcome to head to the Sycamore for nibbles and board games.

This meetup only happens because the Noisebridge community provides a space for it to exist. Maintaining the space and broader community is difficult and thankless work. The meetup is free, but if you want to help the community pay rent, please consider making a donation today. There are also physical, cash donation boxes throughout the space.
