You can Chromecast or AirTunes to the sound system in the Hackitorium.
* Make sure the mixer is on (power switch on top) and the volume turned up to the right channel, and the input (inside the large black AV box) is switched to the correct device.

For example, if you want to play music via Apple TV, set the HDMI SWitcher to "appleTV", and set the output device to "Apple TV Hackatorium" on your machine. Play your favorite music, and dance dance dance! 🕺💃

A RaspberryPi is plugged into the mixer too. It's located on the network at hackitorium-rpi.noise and plays Somafm, most of the time, which can be accessed via the command line tool mpc. To find out the current song and channel, enter into your command line the command
mpc -h hackitorium-rpi.noise

The RNA Lounge (upstairs hackitorium) is covered by KNOB, Noisebridge's internet radio station, via Beyla-connected amplifiers. One amp sits on top of the old NB podium at the top of the stairs -- inside that podium is the FM transmitter broadcasting on 87.9 FM (off by default, easy to switch on, antenna in the stairwell, ~2 block radius). A second amp is in the hallway next to the kitchen, across from the Electronics Lab door. Volume on each amp is independent.

There is a line in cable coming out of the AV box you can plug into a random music making device. Make sure you turn the mixer up on that channel.

No dedicated sound system at the moment.
There's a speaker system above the shelves. A line in should be dangled near the door.

There's a Chromecast plugged into the system but it's a little busted right now, sorry. Hugs.

Audio systems around Noisebridge. Most are part of Music guild, but there are also audio systems for everyone at Noisebridge to use for events or other times you want to play things aloud.

Sound Systems

[edit | edit source]

The physical space has a number of sound systems in various rooms. Please be considerate of those around you when playing music in the space. Asking before blasting.

Musicians?

[edit | edit source]

You can learn about musicians and specifics about music playing options over on Music Guild. This page is for sound systems.

Hackitorium

[edit | edit source]

The downstairs Hackitorium doesn't have a permanent AV setup, but it does have special-event equipment including a projector and large speakers available for bigger gatherings. There's potential here: with a switcher and a tie-in to KNOB's output from Beyla, we could recreate something like the old 2169 setup and give the space full audio routing for events. If you want to help make that happen, ask around or bring it up at a Tuesday meeting.

For historical info about the old permanent setup (HDMI switcher, Apple TV, SomaFM RPi) from 2169 Mission St, see Audio_2169.

RNA Lounge

[edit | edit source]

The RNA Lounge (upstairs hackitorium) is covered by KNOB, Noisebridge's internet radio station, via Beyla-connected amplifiers. One amp sits on top of the old NB podium at the top of the stairs -- inside that podium is the FM transmitter broadcasting on 87.9 FM (off by default, easy to switch on, antenna in the stairwell, ~2 block radius). A second amp is in the hallway next to the kitchen, across from the Electronics Lab door. Volume on each amp is independent.

Music Room

[edit | edit source]

The Music Room is for making music — it's usually full of people playing instruments. Check Music for what's in there.

Wood Shop

[edit | edit source]

No dedicated sound system at the moment.

Sewing Room

[edit | edit source]

Usually kept quiet. Bring your own speaker, or leave the door open to catch KNOB from the hallway amp.

Drum Circle

[edit | edit source]

Still no.

Be Considerate

[edit | edit source]
"I have good taste."

—Mark, speaking for everyone ever's self assessment

Everyone likes their music but it isn't always a good idea to play loud music in the space.

 • Ask yourself if you would be content listening to your music yourself on headphones so other people can listen to theirs.

First Plays

[edit | edit source]
 • The first song played at 83c was by Welle:ErdBall from the album Die Wunderwelt der Technik and the song was "23... C=64.".
 • The first song to play at 2169 was "Yippie" by Mouse on Mars.
